Robert S. Black, age 68, of McHenry, died Sunday, January 24, 2010 at Hospice of Northeastern Illinois, Woodstock.
He was born September 21, 1941 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Robert M. and Patricia E. (Solhaug) Black. On November 7, 1970 he married Frances A. Gravandi at St. James Church in Highwood.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Robert served from 1962 to 1965 and was stationed in Europe and the United States.
He had been a resident of McHenry for the past 35 years. He was employed as a fabricator for Knaack Manufacturing in Crystal Lake and prior to that he was a graphic artist owning his own business and was also employed by others. Robert was an avid outdoorsman. He loved nature and enjoyed canoeing, especially in the Boundary Waters Wilderness Canoe Area in northern Minnesota.
He is survived by his wife Fran of 40 years; three Children, Ken (Kristy) Black of Bonita Springs, FL., Jennifer (Dain) Estes of Kansas City, MO., Collin (Danielle) Black of McHenry; four grandchildren, Keegan, MacKenzie, Chloe, Quinn; and two brothers, Brian (Nancy) Black of St. Paul, MN., Bill ( the late Donna) Black of Atlanta, GA.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation and service were private for immediate family.
